Easy Holiday Tablescapes

How to Create a Beautiful Table:

Start with a color scheme

  • If you limit your color palette, it’s easier to make things look cohesive. It also helps narrow your scope of items to use and helps from getting overwhelmed.

Go with your style

  •  I’m more rustic but these same techniques work with all styles such as modern, whimsical, romantic, and country.

Add layers using fabric, chargers, and plates

  • Pick a Base Layer:  Tablecloths, table runner, placemats, or chargers.

  • Use a favorite you have on hand or inexpensive options like gift wrap, burlap, kraft paper or fabric.

  • Add Chargers: Use your favorite or purchase cheap plastic ones and spray paint them. There are also a lot of DIY options on the internet.

  • Add the Place Settings: The plates don’t even need to match.  Mix and match what you have.  If you keep with your colors and style, it will all work in the end;)  And oftentimes the mixing and matching make for a magical combination.

  • Get creative with napkin rings. I personally don’t have any napkin rings, so I use ribbon, a piece of leather or I skip them altogether and put my plate topper on the napkin directly.  But even a simple napkin ring with a sprig of evergreen tucked in can be really pretty.

  • Add napkins or consider dishtowels as napkins: I like to use dish towels because they are larger, come in a wide range of styles and colors and or usually less expensive.

Consider a plate topper

Something simple like cinnamon or peppermint sticks with a name tag, or a small ornament, a sprig of pine, a pine cone, a piece of fruit, or baked goods.  Really just about anything can work and it makes it a little bit more fun, festive and special.

Add fresh pine

I use fresh pine wherever I can during the holiday season. I tie it on presents, tuck it into cheese boards and cocktails, and add a sprig or two to my table setting. It’s a free and easy way to instantly bring in beautiful texture, holiday vibe, and the smells of the season.

Make it as simple or as over the top as you like. Anything you do will be special! xx, Lauren
