Grilled Pizza Party in 10 easy steps!

One of my most favorite parties to throw is a grilled pizza party. It's easy to prep ahead, everyone loves pizza and there are endless pizza combinations!  I have friends start asking in the spring....When is the pizza party!!? They just love this night.  I have so many funny stories and memories but let me tell you just one.  Our friends still talk about one night when later in the evening it just started pouring down rain.... I was rushing the last pizza into the house, the pizza board caught the door frame and pizza went flying across the room.  I was like....OH NOOOOOOO!  I remember someone shouted "it's ok...we want to still eat it!"   I'm like...ummm, no.

But we laughed so hard, created lasting memories and enjoyed the food and each other.  Anyway..it's so fun and simple, and I'm going to show you how to do it in 10 simple steps!  I hope to hear your fun stories and please share pics of your creations!  Let's inspire others to gather around the table. Cheers!

How to grill a pizza in 10 easy steps!

 1.     Prepare a basic pizza dough.

Tip:  Buy the dough from the grocery store or your favorite pizza restaurant to make it even easier.

2.     The most important tip for grilled pizzas? Cook, slice, and grate whatever toppings you like first—and have them at the ready because the cooking goes fast.  (see this link for toppings ideas)

Tip:  Grate your own cheese!  It tastes better, is better for you, melts better AND it saves money.... you can put towards that great bottle of wine:)    Or is that just my crazy thinking?!  I use my cuisinart and it takes about 2 minutes.

3.     Take the dough and flatten and stretch it with your fingertips into a circle.  It doesn’t need to be a perfect circle…you want it to look rustic.  Stretch to your desired size and thickness and set it on a pan lined with parchment paper and dusted with cornmeal.

Tip:  Room temperature dough is much easier to work with.

4.     Set the dough(s) on a tray along with the olive oil, brush, tongs, cookie sheet and pizza cutter.  Be sure to put parchment paper between doughs.  Trust me on this one;)

5.     Preheat the grill to medium-high.

Tip:  A gas grill is a little easier to manage the temperature, but a charcoal grill gives even more flavor.  Your choice, both are amazing!

6.     Brush one side of dough with olive oil to prevent sticking and lightly season with salt or garlic salt.

7.     Place oiled side down on the grill and brush the top with oil.  Close the grill and cook for 2-5 minutes or until grill marks appear and you are able to turn it over with tongs.  Turn the dough over with tongs and grill the other side.

8.     Remove the crust to a sheet pan and arrange your toppings.

9.     Place the pizza back on the grill and cover until the cheese is melted and delicious!

10.  Remove the pizza from the grill with a pizza peel or flat cookie sheet and place it on the cutting board.   Garnish, slice and enjoy!
