Tailgate Get-Together Recipes and Ideas- Hot Dog Board

I plated these grilled hotdogs on a circular platter and filled in with potato chips. I tucked in a few herbs just to give it some color. But that's totally unnecessary. I put the condiments in little mason jars for that look:) Use your imagination and any border, sheet pan, or tray you have would work perfectly..

Tailgate Get-Together Recipes and Ideas- Chili Fritos Bag Bowl

I love this idea because it’s less to buy (no bowls) and delicious! You could also add cute containers of grated cheese, sour cream, jalapeños nos or whatever you like with your chili.

  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons ground cumin (or more to taste)
  • 1/2-1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper, optional
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth

Instructions

  1. Add the olive oil to a large soup pot and place it over medium-high heat for two minutes. Add the onion. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add the ground beef to the pot. Break it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook for 6-7 minutes, until the beef is browned, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the chili powder, cumin, sugar, tomato paste, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and optional cayenne. Stir until well combined.
  4. Add the broth, diced tomatoes (with their juice), drained beans, and tomato sauce. Stir well.

Tailgate Get-Together Recipes and Ideas- Snack Mix

I bought this crate on amazon and will use it for so many things! I took off the beer letters to make it universal. If you don’t want to use waffle cones, you could make paper cones out of your team’s colors, or your decor colors. I filled in with apples and sage because it's what I had on hand. But you could fill in with popcorn candy or whatever makes your heart sing.

Tailgate Get-Together Recipes and Ideas- Snack Mix

I love using rolled down small lunch bags when I'm serving in an outdoor environment. It's easy cleanup, and so darling. You could even wrap a ribbon or string around it if your fancy.

Football Apple Hand Pies

Apple Hand Pies are a perfect hand-held dessert that tastes like fall. Perfect for a tailgate or any time!
Prep time: 30 MinCook time: 12 MinTotal time: 42 Min

Ingredients

  • 21 ounces apple pie filling, store-bought or homemade below (you won’t need it all)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 package pie crusts (4 crusts), I use Pillsbury
  • 1 egg
  • Store-bought icing in a tube for laces (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. Chop apple pie filling into small pieces and mix with cinnamon.
  3. Roll out the pie dough to ⅛-inch thick and cut the dough into12 football shapes.
  4. Add 1- 2 tablespoon apple pie filling to 6 of the footballs. Don't over stuff.
  5. Brush egg wash around the edges and top with the remaining 6 football shapes. Use a fork to crimp the edges firmly together. Make two slits on the top of the pie.
  6. Brush with tegg wash and bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. After cooled, pipe on laces with icing. I used store-bought icing.

Notes

  • Hand pies can be baked in an air fryer for 8-10 minutes at 350°F. Any flavor of pie filling may be substituted.
  • You can shape the hand pies in whatever shape you want. I used a football shape. You can also use a round cookie cutter. I don’t suggest anything smaller than 3 inches in diameter because you can’t fit enough filling in a pie that small. You can also shape into rectangles. Bake time will be more or less depending on size– just bake until crust is golden brown. Use the same oven temperature.
  • Hand pies can be made 2 days in advance and stored two days at room temperature. Refrigerate after that. Reheat in the oven or air fryer.
