MARCH MADNESS BASKETBALL SLIDERS

These basketball buns can be used for any sandwich but I’m showing them with pulled pork. Either way, you can’t go wrong. I found the black food coloring markers at Michaels and JoAnn’s.

Here is an

Ingredients

  • 3-pound pork butt (or a pork shoulder)
  • 1 onion cut in quarters
  • 2 cans of Coke or Dr. Pepper
  • 3 Tablespoons garlic salt
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups KC BBQ sauce (to taste)
  • Slider Buns
  • Food-safe black food coloring

Instructions

  1. Season all sides of pork with garlic salt.
  2. Place pork, onions, and Coke into a crockpot.
  3. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours.
  4. Remove pork from the crockpot and discard most of the Coke onion mixture, leaving just a little behind to help moisten the pork.
  5. Place the pork back into the crockpot (or in a large bowl) and then use two large forks to shred the meat discarding any fat. Taste and add additional salt if needed.
  6. Add as much BBQ sauce as you'd like and combine.
  7. Leave the slow cooker on low, or warm, to keep things hot until you are ready to serve on buns.
  8. Store leftovers in the fridge, in an airtight container, for up to 5 days.
Buns
  1. Start by making an “X” on your bun with the food coloring marker. Go very light not to tear the bun and tipping the pen at an angle helps as well.
  2. Then add two half-ovals on either side, to resemble a basketball.

Notes

Add pickles, cheese, coleslaw, or any other toppings you'd like.
